People taking a stroll around the park can now get clued up on different types of trees.
Barcodes have been placed on wooden posts marking the Highfield Park Trust (HPT) tree trail in St Albans, which people can scan on their phones to find out more about the tree they are standing next to.
Visitors who have a code reader on their phone will be directed to the trust’s website when they scan the post.
The idea came from Andy Grant, a trustee for HPT, who is planning on extending the scheme.
He said: “We’re considering how we might use this technology to enhance the visitor experience in other ways, such as linking to the extensive history information and old photographs of the area that the trust is gathering.
“If we get enough positive feedback we will look at extending the scheme to the rest of the trees on the tree trail.”
