A group of local mums are aiming to make St Albans more dementia-friendly by opening a new café.

Around 40 people attended the first dementia café, which was held at St Mary’s Church in Marshalswick on Wednesday, May 10.

Organiser and owner of care company Home Instead, Fiona Harrall, said: “Our first café has been a great success, the session was full of people from the local community and we had an overwhelming response for volunteers, which is how we came across the wonderful local mums who supported us through our first session.

“Here at Home Instead many of our clients are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, so we understand the challenges faced by those living with the condition.”

The dementia café will run every second and fourth Wednesday of each month at St Mary’s, from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
