A Harpenden road was blocked when a pile of fly-tipped rubbish was strewn across the lane.
Herts police were called at about 7.30pm on Monday, January 8 to the pile of flytipped waste on Common Lane.
They signposted the road and alerted Herts county council to the problem.
There was a Christmas tree, a sofa, plant pots, tyres, plastic buckets, and a table in the rubbish mound.
A witness, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “Personally I find it appalling not just because of the laziness of it but the cost of clearing it up, how unsightly it is, and also the damage to the environment and wildlife.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
