A retired teacher who lost her 11-year-old St Albans granddaughter to cancer is strumming her ukulele for tumour research.

Jacky Atkins’ granddaughter Holly passed away six months ago from a highly aggressive brain tumour called glioblastoma multiforme after battling the disease throughout two operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Jacky and her U3A Dacorum ukulele group, UkeRythmics, will be raising money for Brian Tumour Research’s Wear a Hat Day 2018 by donning head wear at Ukefest.

She said: “Holly was full of life, funny and happy. She loved playing with her dolls, loved animals, she had just discovered make up, and loved to boss her poor granddads around when she played schools with them.”

Ukefest is at Rickmansworth School on March 18 and Wear a Hat Day 2018 is on March 29.
