A pet-lover is about to publish the tale of her cat who hitchhiked 250miles from Newquay to St Albans and sparked a wide-spread search.
Parisa Jenkins has written the story of her pet cat in a 25 chapter book called The Adventures of Fudge Jenkins.
The chocolate coloured Siamese-cross hit headlines last year when he stowed away in an unsuspecting holiday-maker’s car in Newquay and was brought to St Albans, where he escaped.
A Sandridge Road resident eventually found Fudge more than a month later after recognising his picture from an article in the Herts Ad.
It was not the first time Fudge has disappeared - in October 2016 he went missing for eight weeks before being found wandering around Dartmoor, with no explanation of how he came to be there.
Unfortunately, Fudge passed away at 18 years old in June from either cancer or kidney failure.
Parisa said his death spurred her to finish the book, which has been in the pipeline for nearly four years.
She said: “It was definitely cathartic and emotional in good and bad ways because there are lots of funny things to say and sad things to say.
“The end of his life is always hard but I wrote the end of the book before I went back to the middle because I wanted to write the painful bits first - and I have enjoyed writing the middle bit.”
Parisa said Fudge was well-known about Newquay for roaming around and visiting shops, pubs, restaurants, and the beach, and she received about 150 condolence messages when he died.
She added: “It’s really hard because it feels like losing a member of the family. He was very precious to all of us and we miss him.
“I feel sad that it is the end but hopefully lots of people will enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it.”
Fudge lived with Parisa and her family all over the country, form Bristol to Gloucester and then Newquay.
Parisa has written two other nonfiction books - Talking to Animals, and Findbella: The Search to get Bella Home - a book detailing the story of her dog going missing.
The Adventures of Fudge Jenkins will be published on Amazon in the next couple of months.
