THIEVES smashed their way into a shop in St Albans causing damage estimated at £1,500 and making off with a trolley-load of cigarettes and alcohol. They shattered the front doors of Tesco Metro in St Brelades Place, Jersey Farm, just before midnight on Tuesday, smashed open cabinets and scattered stock all over the shop. It is thought that the raiders parked in the store's car park and two of them then got out and broke into the shop. They filled a trolley with the cigarettes and alcohol and wheeled it to the waiting car. The police have five people in custody in connection with the burglary.
