FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze which engulfed 40 tonnes of rubbish in a field last night (Monday).
Four crews, including two from St Albans, were called to the fire off Beningfield Drive, Napsbury Park, London Colney, at 10.45pm.
A water shuttle had to be established to ferry the water from the nearest hydrant to the scene in London Colney.
Fire investigators will be trying to establish the cause of the fire which is currently being treated as doubtful.
Nobody was hurt in the incident and the fire was out by 1am this morning.
Meanwhile a carelessly-discarded cigarette caused a large area of a field to go up in flames on Friday afternoon.
More than 300 square metres of crops in the field between Holyrood Crescent in St Albans and the A414 caught fire at around 3.40pm and three fire crews fought the blaze.
They used water and beaters to tackle the fire which was out by around 4.15pm.
