In fact with 90.3mm, it was the third wettest month this year, just behind January and March and a few millimetres more than May, according to the figures collected at Rothamsted Research in Harpenden.
However two-thirds of the total rainfall - 60.9mm - came on just three days, July 6, 9 and 11 with the wettest day being July 9 with 22.3mm or just about one inch.
It was the 20th wettest July since 1890 though it was a long way behind the record which was July 1950 when 137.6mm fell.
To add to the gloom it was also a bit cloudier t6han Norman with sunshine, at 197.t hours being about 8.6 hours below average.
July 1 was the sunniest day with 14 hours and the wettest day, July 9, had no sun at all.
The warmest day was towards the end of the month, Sunday, July 27, with 27.1C. The lowest temperature was during the night of July 4 with 7.7C.
There were no frosts.
