FLOODING at a busy traffic junction has been blamed on damage caused to drainage pipes by tree roots.
In times of heavy rain the Ancient Briton junction in St Albans has become flooded and road closures were in place on Friday and Monday while repair work was carried out.
Harpenden Road was closed between the junction and Stone Cross for a few hours Friday afternoon and Beech Road was closed from the junction up to Seymour Road on Monday.
A spokesperson for Herts Highways said they had investigated the problem which revealed that the flooding was caused by tree roots penetrating the drainage pipes.
The work has involved cutting these tree roots out and Herts Highways said they would continue to monitor the area in times of heavy rain.
