CHARGES are to be introduced for the naming and numbering of streets in the district to cover administrative costs.
St Albans District Council's cabinet rubberstamped the idea, which has already been introduced in a number of other areas, at their recent meeting.
The council is responsible for clearly and logically naming and numbering streets and buildings to ensure similar or confusing addresses are avoided and about 40 relevant bodies have to be notified in the process.
It is normally developers who require the services but it is occasionally used by individual homeowners.
The charges will come into force from October and start at £130 for a new street name and £50 for adding or changing a house or building name.
Cllr Mike Ellis, the portfolio holder for environment and sustainability, said: "Every street has a name and every house has a number. People take it for granted but I have one or two people working on this as a job share.
