SIR, - Interesting to note (Herts Advertiser, March 20) that the current weather station at Rothamsted is celebrating its centenary this year - with, I believe, records from a nearby site going back a further 50 years.
It's also one of the key weather stations providing temperature data for the long-term 'Central England Temperature' record which goes back, though with decreasing accuracy, to 1659 and crucial for our assessment of the rate of global warming.
