Leading up to the celebrations, the Abbey Theatre will be hosting a Victorian Music Hall based around the Abbey Line and its history on Saturday, April 26, at 3pm.
Music Hall is a form of entertainment that established itself in the British theatre in the 1850s. Audiences who did not have the modern luxury of television would go there to see their favourite stars such as Marie Lloyd, Vesta Tilley and Dan Leno perform their trademark songs, dances and comedy routines which would be presided over by a chairman who announced the acts with a bang of his gavel.
Inner Sanctum, directed by acclaimed West End theatre director Faye Hughes, present an Abbey Line-themed Music Hall featuring tunes and poems you may well know, information about the Abbey Line that might be new to some audience members and a character whose fairground was the toast of Bricket Wood many years ago.
