SIR, - It was reported in the Daily Telegraph on April 23 that figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show that 10 out of 43 police forces in England and Wales do not detain suspected illegal immigrants but release them with directions to the nearest immigration office in Croydon.
Unfortunately Herts police is one of the 10. If I was an illegal immigrant I do not think I would go hot foot to Croydon, I would just disappear. Another case of paying yet more tax for less service.
