SIR, - I have to agree with Conservative Harpenden Town Councillor Michael Weaver (Herts Advertiser, January 19) that the ever-escalating costs of schemes like St Peter's Street, St Albans, are unacceptable. The fact that this scheme is more than £3 million over budget is due to the lack of financial control by Herts County Council which is run by his own Conservative Party.
