SIR, - My son is one of the Wheathampstead children still awaiting a secondary school place. At the moment he is expected to leave home before 7am to get two buses to a school outside our priority area. We have followed the county guidelines and applied for schools in our priority area, only to be given a school over six miles away in a different area.

The ongoing wait for news of a school is causing high levels of stress to all parents and children who have been put in this position. The children have their SATs coming up in a few weeks - they hardly need anything else to worry about!

The whole admissions process needs rethinking in order to reduce stress levels for all concerned. This is not the first year these issues have come up - how long is it going to take before Herts County Council start taking this seriously?
