SIR - When Hertfordshire County Council decided to close Stairways and build a new respite care centre for diabled children in Hemel Hempstead, did anybody consider that there is no A&E in Hemel, bearing in mind that the Aiming High Consultation was aimed particularly at children with complex, medical problems? Admittedly, there is no A&E in Harpenden either but it is at least nearer to the A&E at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital than Hemel is to either Luton or Watford General.
