SIR, - While the closure of Woolworths in St Albans is still fresh in the mind, I remember the store as a child when nothing cost more than sixpence and you could get quite a lot for that - a halfpenny worth of sweets, for instance, and chocolate whorls for twopence each.
In the same store I saw a counter full of tortoises at sixpence each - no rules and regulations then.
