SIR - I would like to express my thanks to Herts Highways - in particular Andrew Freeman and Martin Sears of the Safer Routes to School Team - for the efficient implementation of a road-safety scheme in Old Harpenden Road, St Albans.
The scheme includes a new stretch of pavement. However, it has not been possible to install a pavement along the full length of the road as it is too narrow so I would ask drivers to check their speed since school pupils of all ages use Old Harpenden Road when walking to and from school.
