SIR - The proposal by Chris Adkins (Herts Advertiser letters, November 26) would divert traffic onto the so-called ring road which is a mainly residential route which is already congested for many hours during the day. He states that "the council wishes to enhance the ring road". I have not been informed of this, either by the council or in the local press.
There is already congestion on Marshalswick Lane for several hours during the day with long queues frequently.
We often find it difficult to turn right out of our drive. Many vehicles exceed the 30mph speed limit. On the section of road close to us there is no effective measure to remind vehicles of the speed limit or any physical features to slow vehicles down.
Schoolchildren from a primary and a secondary school need to cross the road and to walk or cycle on the narrow footpaths.
