SIR, - When I watch the TV and see yet another one of our young soldiers has been killed in Afghanistan I am very upset. Why on earth are they over there being killed and what are they fighting for?
I lost my brother in World War Two. I also served in the army but we knew what we were fighting for - our lives and freedom.
When the war came to St Albans with the sad news of Captain James Philippson, I felt so sad for his family here and my heart goes out to them. Time is a great healer, so they say, but they will never forget. I still treasure my brother's memory.
I will attend the memorial service on April 20. God give that dear family strength to live with their terrible loss.
H.G. Eames (aged 86),
Betty Entwistle House, St Albans.
