SIR - Having completed all my comments on recycling, I now feel compelled to comment on Barrie Mort's letter (Herts Advertiser, May 14) entitled Travel Ban.

Although I cannot help parents with small children not being allowed to travel home from London on FCC between 4.30pm and 7pm, I can give helpful information to the over-60s.

My husband was considering renewing his Network Railcard in order to obtain discount on One-Day Travel Cards for us both when the booking office clerk informed us that by using our OAP bus passes as far as the Herts County boundary at Elstree and Borehamwood, it would only cost us 20p more per ticket than using a Network Railcard costing 20 and we were entitled to travel between 4.30 and 7pm.

This bus pass concession on FCC is made available by St Albans City and District Council. It would take a lot of 20 pences to add up to the cost of an annual Railcard.

Isn't it wonderful when something works in favour of at least a section of the general public?
