St Albans residents are known for splashing their cash on some of the country’s most expensive properties, so why would their attitude to tinsel be any different?

According to a new study, the people of Snorbs are Britain’s biggest spenders when it comes to Xmas accessories. Sellhousefast.uk surveyed 100 households in 65 British cities and asked how much they planned to spend on their Christmas decorations this year.

St Albans came top, with an average spend of £62 on all the festive essentials – trees, cards and decorations - £17.50 more than the national average. Canterbury and Durham were next.

Wolverhampton residents must be busy getting their fake trees out of the loft and donating £5 to charity in lieu of Christmas cards this year, with an average spend of £16 putting them at the bottom of the list, followed by Stoke-on-Trent and Northampton.

This bauble-related revelation comes in the wake of YouGov stats revealing the average festive spend among UK households is set to be a whopping £780.28 this Christmas. Y’know, approximately. This is £16 less than 2015 and £40 down on 2014.

No news on the exact stats for St Albans, but we’re predicting actual small fortunes being spent on Waitrose turkeys, White Company PJs and vast quantities of fine mulled wine. Here’s to a very merry Christmas!
