The Evening Standard has named St Albans as one of its 25 ‘commuter hotspots’.
The Homes & Property section of the London paper named the cathedral city in a list of places boasting ‘top schools and fast routes into the capital’.
Londoners seeking slightly better VFM than they’d be likely to find in the big smoke were advised to consider St Albans as a place to potentially relocate to.
The only other Hertfordshire town to make the cut was Tring, which featured alongside the likes of Winchester, Guildford and Sevenoaks.
The Standard said: “St Albans is hard to beat for its 19-minute commute into St Pancras. Schools here are among the best in the country, with a huge number of primaries rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, though houses are pricier at an average of just over £565,000.”
It added that the city would suit Londoners “looking for good schools but not wanting to give up the buzz just yet”.
This isn’t the first time St Albans has featured prominently on such a list; in January, the city came fifth in a list of 30 commuter areas not served by the Southern rail network - Harpenden came first.
