New web tool compares property prices across the globe

Ever wondered what the price you paid for your home would buy you elsewhere in the world? Well now you can find out.

The team at have built an interactive site - - which allows users to compare more than 21,000 different locations in the UK against the average cost of property in their local areas, the rest of the UK, Europe and the world.

Simply add your house price and location to the site and Your Home Vs The World will compare it to the average property in your local area as well as those on its most expensive street.

In case you weren’t feeling inadequate enough, it will then tell you how many homes like yours would be required to purchase a £241m property on the most expensive street in the world, Pollock’s Path, The Peak, Hong Kong. (The answer, if you own a £400,000 home in Stevenage, is 604.6.)

Zoe Ashton, spokesperson for, said: “Us Britons tend to be open when discussing what our homes are worth with family, friends and acquaintances.

“As a result of this, we decided to build this tool in order to help give a little further insight into just how huge the difference in property costs can be; not just across different countries and cities, but even within the same boroughs, villages and towns!”
