62 Kimpton Road achieves title of Most Sustainable Construction.
Owners of 62 Kimpton Road are now proud winners of the Most Sustainable Construction Award at this year’s Building Futures Awards, held on Tuesday 15th March at the Old Palace, Hatfield House and sponsored by Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and category sponsor The Green Triangle.
The judges were impressed by the sleek design of the property and its zero carbon usage. Judge Martin Cook said, “This is an inspirational private residence that achieves zero carbon in use. It is also a self-build scheme. The owner is a construction project manager who was assisted by an architect.”
The house was constructed from renewable and recycled products and material with a low embodied energy. Re-claimed natural slates have been used for the north-facing roof and garage. Other materials were chosen for the project based on their recycled content such as plasterboard (recycled gypsum), insulation (recycled glass), kitchen worktops (recycled glass and shells).
This feat does a lot for the ongoing mission to keep Herts green.
