SIR - With reference to the article 70 Years On (Herts Advertiser, September 3), the picture of the plaque at Diocesan House features part of my family history.
My parents lived in Southwark, London, and I was born at the General Lying-In Hospital in York Road (just off Westminster Bridge) but in 1940 my mother was evacuated from London to St Albans.
She was billeted in a house at Totternhoe and on August 2, 1940, she gave birth to my brother in Diocesan House, St Albans.
A couple of years ago I took my brother there to see for himself where he was born (it is now a convalescent home) and they very kindly took us on a tour round which is where we saw the plaque. It is rather odd that it is I who lives near his birthplace.
