SIR, - The decision of the Nomansland Common Joint Management Committee to reject the plans to fence and graze Nomansland is a wonderful result for local democracy.
Surely this must be the first occasion in St Albans when the public response to a consultation exercise has influenced the outcome. This has set a dangerous precedent and unsurprisingly, senior members of the ruling junta looked very unhappy. This is not supposed to happen.
Councillors Clark, Page and Turner are to be congratulated for showing that some people do enter politics with honourable intentions, to serve the community and represent those who voted then into office.
Cllr Page also did an excellent job as chairman in very difficult circumstances and kept the meeting to order despite the actions of the two councillors who demonstrated their contempt for local residents and walked out.
