Out of place
SIR, — Why would anyone want to dump a whacking great steel flower vase in the natural, rural setting of Verulamium? It looks extraordinarily out of place. Its meaning is obscure. This is not a small formal town park with manicured flower beds and bands
SIR, - Why would anyone want to dump a whacking great steel "flower vase" in the natural, rural setting of Verulamium? It looks extraordinarily out of place. Its meaning is obscure.
This is not a small formal town park with manicured flower beds and bandstands. Verulamium does not need any large, unnatural, man-made objects. Nor does it need to encourage more visitors -it has plenty, especially at weekends and in holiday periods.
There are many better local uses for 'several hundred thousand pounds' and other places in less rural parts of St Albans where modern sculpture would be more appropriate.
