SIR, - I think your readers will be interested in the attached cutting from the Herts Advertiser which turned up in some packing behind a framed picture. Note the date - 1960. Nearly half-a-century on we are still discussing the future of the Odeon Cinema, which I remember originally as the Capitol. That was when we still had the Chequers in Chequer Street and the Grand Palace, later the Gaumont, in Stanhope Road near the station.

The late Cyril Swinson, one of the prime movers in the Company of Ten, must be having a laugh. He played a major role in the building of the theatre at Westminster Lodge and I suggest that, if he were still around, he would be raising a petition to give the man from Berkhamsted the chance to get the show back on the road as he did with the very successful Rex cinema.
