SIR, - Last week I had an appointment at St Albans City Hospital. Checking in at reception I was asked a few questions regarding personal details, the last one being: "What is your ethnic origin?" - to which I replied: "English."
The receptionist informed me, po-faced, that English was not on the list of categories on the paper in front of her and would I like to chose another.
