SIR, - Is the market in St Albans in terminal decline? Years ago the stalls filled the road down to the Clock Tower on both Wednesdays and Saturdays. Many useful stalls with knowledgeable stall holders.
On Wednesday, February 11, I went to the market to find two fruit-and-veg stalls, one card stall and one flower stall and that was it. It's true it was early in the morning but I expected to find clothes, handbags watch repairers and others.
I was told that the cost of a stall on a Saturday is now over 100. If this is true then I suggest the district council closes the market completely as it cannot be financially viable for anyone to operate there.
