SIR, - The irony of Val Carr's letter (Herts Advertiser, October 16) welcoming the new forest being imposed on the Sandridge area as it will allow us once again to walk the Hill End Farm tracks, is that it was the recent owners, the beneficiaries of the Woodland Trust deal, who withdrew the long-established permissive rights in the first place.

So we've got the tracks back - but will lose views over open country, skylarks over wheatfields and productive farmland.

Perhaps the archaeologists will find some Roman remains on the hilltop to help compensate.
