More than 200 girls from Harpenden and Wheathampstead took part in a getaway adventure to celebrate 100 years of Brownies.

The big Brownie birthday saw the girls set off to Gilwell Park Activity Centre in Essex.

Brownies, Guides, and Rainbows gathered together to take part in activities such as zip wire, an aerial trek, leap of faith, and the 3G swing.

Chief Guide, Gill Slocombe (pictured right with local Guides), said: “It’s fantastic to see such a large number of girls of all ages and their leaders challenging themselves in the outdoors and working together. This weekend they will have made some very special ‘Guiding’ memories.”

The activities come as part of an initiative to help build girls’ self confidence, be more active citizens, and learn about the wider world. Charlotte Evans, 10, from the 17th Harpenden Brownies, said: “I’ve made lots of new friends and I am having a lot of fun!”
