Free repeat prescription service: save a trip to the GP

Avicenna in St Albans offers a FREE repeat prescription collection and delivery service.
This service is easy, hassle free and means that the pharmacy team at Avicenna in Ermine Close manage the prescriptions for you. This saves you endless trips to the GP, all that you need to do is call or come into our pharmacy to order your repeat prescription a week before you need your medicine.
Our pharmacy team will then collect the prescription from the surgery, make up the medicine, and let you know when it’s ready for collection or send it out for delivery.

KEEP YOUR KIDS FIGHTING FIT THIS WINTER
With winter looming in the horizon, there’s a high possibility that your little one is going to be exposed to colds, flus, coughs and other various winter illnesses very shortly.
Sadly, there’s no set formula to protect your toddler – particularly when they’re surrounded by pals their own age for half the day.
As most common winter viruses are airborne, being next to a sneezing or coughing friend means that your child has a high chance of breathing in the germs themselves. Here’s what to do to become a bug fighting super mum this winter…
1) Keep those hands squeaky clean
– Washing hands regularly is the most effective way to get rid of your little one’s hands of germs and bugs! Teach them the importance of washing their hands before eating,
after using the toilet, and when they come home from day care.
2) Teach them not to touch their eyes or nose: when you see your child wiping their nose or eyes, the best thing to do is to teach them to use a tissue. And remember – catch it, bin it, kill it!
3) Keep them active: physical activities helps to keep kids healthy and strong. All children should undertake physical activity for at least an hour each day, so enrol them in a club, take them out to walk the dog or go on a family bike ride.
4) Make sure that they spend enough time in the land of nod: toddlers generally require about 14 hours a day of sleep, at the very least 10 to 12.
5) Help them to eat well: we all know that what we eat can have a big impact upon our immune system – so help your toddler by feeding them lots of healthy food! However, make sure that you balance their range of snacks.
