SIR - I read, first with amusement and empathy E Godden's poem on travel with First Capital Connect (Herts Advertiser letters, January 14) UNTIL I read the lines to which A Strowman (Herts Advertiser letters, January 28) refers. I have cut out his letter to show to my grandchildren: I share his repugnance.
Your paper had a photograph of a man standing (horror!) in a carriage, reading a newspaper, bodily functions obviously no problem.
Has this country's educational, cultural level plummeted in two generations to such a level whereby the "poet" has been made unaware of this human-devised evil?
Perhaps editor, to counteract this, you would publish details of unexpected gifts of kindness, joy and humour from your readership. I shared one such not long since.
