SIR, - Further to your story headlined "Weekend engineering works blight St Pancras line" (Herts Advertiser, December 13), could I highlight this story further.

As a daily commuter on FCC's Thameslink route from Radlett, I know that this disruption has not been widely publicised. When I say widely, I mean "in big letters" so to speak. There are no large posters spelling this out, no leaflets given out, and no tannoy announcements. Those whom I have talked to have no idea that from this weekend they will no longer be able to catch a train to London, and that their revised journey will take approximately one-and-a-half-hours to get to London.

Those travelling from Radlett and Elstree and Borehamwood have to alight at Hendon and catch a bus-replacement service which then stops at Cricklewood and Kentish Town - not West Hampstead which is vital for Jubilee line connection which goes to the West End (Bond Street).

Those travelling from St Albans, Harpenden and stations north have the "luxury" of a twice-hourly train service which is fast between St Albans and St Pancras taking 30 minutes.

An alternative you might think for those in Radlett would be to take a northbound service to St Albans and then change to the fast London-bound service. However FCC has cleverly engineered the timetable so that the Radlett to St Albans train arrives at St Albans one minute after the non-stop London-bound service has departed.

Those living in Elstree have the option of travelling to nearby Stanmore, those in Mill Hill and Hendon can use their tube services, but those in Radlett have been given little consideration by FCC and have a complete bum deal.

I tried on Monday to look up the revised train timetable - which FCC has issued in hard copy - on their website but it was not on there. I phoned their customer services but they said that it was not on the site. I presume they have not put it on the site so that customers can't find out how severely disrupted they are going to be. All that you can download is a summary document of the changes and how the engineering works will affect journeys.

I do not understand why the fast trains cannot stop at Radlett too. Surely some pressure from customers can make them add Radlett - and perhaps Elstree & Borehamwood - to the fast service.
