SIR, - With reference to disabled Mr Roger Meads' parking ticket (Herts Advertiser, January 5), I was amazed to read that he was fined and not cautioned for not realising his blue badge date had expired. As I use Wheathampstead daily, anytime between 9.30am and 12 noon the spaces outside the bakers and the chemist are constantly being used by able-bodied and tradesmen yet I have never seen a traffic warden about or a parking ticket on the vehicles. This is the time the disabled need the spaces to get prescriptions, newspapers, bread and for the post office - not for their teabreaks and lunches. Is it not high time to put money where it is needed instead of wasting it in St Peter's Street, St Albans? All Wheathampstead residents pay their council tax and get nothing for it. A traffic warden at an appropriate time would be money well spent. P. ROLFE, Beech Crescent, Wheathampstead.
