SIR - There are new, clear traffic signs at the Hatfield Road/Ashley Road mini-roundabouts but local traffic already knows where it is going.
If a long-distance driver approaching from Hatfield does not want to go to London Colney or Sandridge (which are not even towns) they have no choice but to head for the city centre.
There is an urgent need to reduce congestion in the city centre and the council wish to enhance the existing ring road.
If the new sign offered M10, M25 or M1 or Local Traffic, long-distance drivers would have the chance to make a better choice.
With a little imagination, city-centre traffic could be reduced with just the use of signage at the city approaches.
