SIR, - The saga of the new refuse collection scheme rolls on and I was especially perturbed to read in Geoff Magus' letter "Hot topic" (Herts Advertiser, June 12) that he had been assured by a St Albans District Council official that the organic contents of our green bins are in fact incinerated. Further across the same page, however, is a letter from Andrew Robertson (Acting Head of Environment and Regulatory Services, St Albans City and District Council) telling us that material placed in the green bins "goes to ... a sealed vessel composting facility at St Ives in Cambridgeshire where it is processed into compost". Quite obviously there is some confusion at Rubbish HQ. Would someone from the council like to explain once and for all exactly what happens to our organic waste.
