SIR, - Traffic confusion continues in St Albans at the junction of Victoria Street and St Peter's Street. Soon someone will be injured or worse. Cars and buses stack up, pedestrians find the crossing blocked and sometimes take risks, and the many traffic lights don't effectively control the situation.
Isn't there a simple answer? Making this a box junction would clarify what can be done and when. The rule says that vehicles cannot enter a box junction until the exit is clear.
Therefore drivers who currently block the road would have to change their behaviour or break the law and pedestrians would have a better chance of being able to cross safely when the green light tells them they can.
