SIR, - In the article "The Big Idea for park" (Herts Advertiser, February 26), the proposed sculpture for Verulamium Park, St Albans, does present a number of problems.
Regardless of the personal views of individuals, this art work needs to be chosen from a much wider selection of ideas. At the very least there should be an open competition that would attract sculptors from Herts and the Eastern arts region.
The ultimate choice should be a decision made by a panel of local interested parties as well as those qualified to make both artistic and technical judgements.
