SIR - I keep reading in the letters pages disturbing tales of poor patient care for the elderly in our local NHS hospitals. I have been under continual NHS care for over 50 years and have nothing but praise for them.
In 1956 when I was 18, I lost my leg in a motorcycle accident. The kindness and care I received at Luton and Dunstable remains with me always.
I'm still with the L&D and have recently been treated at St Albans and Hemel Hempstead. The consideration and care I'm receiving now, in my 70s, is no different from then when I was a frightened 18-year-old.
