SIR, - I was very interested to see the article on the "Alban Bun" (Herts Advertiser, April 2). It reminded me of an occasion in the 1960s when the Women's Institutes in the county were asked to take part in an Easter celebration concert in Wheathampstead Memorial Hall.
I was a member of Kinsbourne Green W.I. at that time and our contribution was a playlet written in rhyme and blank verse by Mary Saunders, and entitled Easter at the Abbey (or The first Hot-Cross Bun). All the W.I. members took part as townsfolk, nobles, monks, children etc. I remember being cast as the Abbot of St Albans, dressed in a flowing garment made from a blanket.
It was great fun rehearsing the playlet which was well received on the night. I stll have the script and enjoyed reading it again following your article.
FRANCIS TOMPSON,
Wheathampstead W.I.
