SIR - There has been much criticism about the condition of the roads in St Albans. We all know about climate change and are always being encouraged to leave our cars at home.
With the price of fuel being what it is and in a bid to improve my fitness, I have decided to walk from my home in Marshalswick to my place of work in Victoria Street. I have been appalled by the state of the pavements. Luckily, I am capable of negotiating the uneven surfaces, but it must be very difficult for elderly or disabled people.
The worst conditions are where the pavements have been covered with tarmac and have not been repaired or resurfaced for many years. Perhaps, if the council are serious about people leaving their cars at home, they should make it easier to do so.
