SIR, - Petitions are useful against post office closures but even better is writing to just FREEPOST Consultation Team or consultation@postoffice.co.uk/networkchange giving your details, the sub-post office and reasons against closure.

These could include for the post office at 107 Station Road, Harpenden, the lack of parking other than street parking at the main post office against number 107's free car park, the already long queues at the main post office, the actual route of the road from Batford across the river causing only 60 per cent of Harpenden East to be within their one-mile criterion, and this area with locally the largest percentage of social housing and sheltered housing having the lowest percentage of private transport to access alternatives. CLLR MIKE WAKELY,

St Albans District and Harpenden Town Councillor.
