SIR, - Just a few lines to write and tell you a small story of how my mother used to work for Woolworths many, many years ago.

She used to work on the sweet counter selling hot-roasted nuts.

My father came from Redbourn and used to pop into Woolworths on his way back from working as a builder in St Albans somewhere. He met my mother while she was working in Woolworths and asked her out on a date. Later on in life they got married.

Sadly both have died, my father 40 years ago this year. My mother was 88 when she died 12 years ago. If she had lived she would have been 100 this year, so it shows you how long ago she used to work for Woolworths.

The reason I write this letter is because a few weeks ago the Herts Advertiser asked for any interesting things that happened at Woolworths. This was a happy one.

PATRICIA PETTS,

Cotswold Close, St Albans.
