SIR, - May I congratulate all those involved in the Gang Show performed at Harpenden Public Hall?

Everyone who saw the brilliant performances was provided with two-and-a-half hours of good, clean, honest fun and very high-class entertainment. The enthusiasm of the young people was infectious and impressive and the standard of singing and dancing "mind blowing". I must admit that superlatives escape even me!

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many parents and family members who have supported the Gang Show over the last few months and who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. The effort involved in preparing the huge cast, costume making, ticket sales and front of house for the five days was enormous. It is another example of how this county runs on volunteers in all aspects of its life.

It really was a fantastic family effort and personally I could not have asked for a better way to start a New Year. There was such optimism and camaraderie to mark their 60th anniversary show.

Harpenden is so fortunate and it should be acknowledged publicly how much all our schools - primary and secondary - benefit enormously from such activities and the talent nurtured and developed by such groups as the Scouting community, be it in drama, dance and of course sport.

We are indeed a sustainable community and should be proud of it!

NORMAN HOARE,

Headmaster, St George's School.
