SIR - What a shame it is to see the newly-decorated St Albans Town Hall left almost unoccupied. I remember not so long ago when it was a centre for a whole range of activities, events and sales, that benefited the city.

I understand a local arts group has now taken over the running of the building and that there will soon be a coffee/tea shop in the front office where the Tourist Information Centre used to be. This is fine but I don't see how it will benefit the vast majority of St Albans residents, especially as we already have enough art centres and coffee shops.

It just seems to me that our flagship building is being wasted at present. I remember on market days how the foyer used to be busy with various sales and events happening. I mean if we are honest, how many of us really want to go and see a recycled chair?

My point is that it would have been appreciated if residents had at least been given a say on what happened to this fantastic building, something that could benefit both residents and visitors alike - but then that's not how these things work, is it?
