SIR, - You report how a doctor on an emergency call was given a fine for parking on double yellow lines even though she was displaying a "doctor on call" sign.

This situation is unacceptable. A doctor must be able to get to a patient in an emergency even if this means parking in such a way. Also, the doctor has been asked to prove that the situation was an emergency. Surely a person in such a position should be considered completely trustworthy.

As a council tax-payer, and therefore an employer of both NCP employees and council officials, I think that the parking attendant should be retrained to perform the job more satisfactorily, and that the council official who upheld the decision should, at the very least, be disciplined.
