SIR, - Presumably the move by Tesco to tidy up the "broken teeth" buildings on London Road, St Albans (Herts Advertiser letters, September 4), is really a tactical step to facilitate the next planning application and soften us up for next time.

The insinuation by Tesco that St Albans District Council and Anne Main MP would support a planning application is ironic in view of the strength of local views expressed recently

Tesco may need another supermarket to maintain their financial growth but is anyone really convinced by their frequent suggestion, repeated in this letter again, that another one is "much needed" in the city?

The impact of even more traffic at this location on a major arterial road into St Albans would be disastrous.

The suggestion that the site would benefit from a supermarket is very arguable. I seem to recall other much more sensible options being referred to, which would not have such a negative impact

MIKE TIDBALL,

Brampton Road, St Albans.
